Design by Devonleigh: How to Create a Beautiful Laundry Room
Your laundry room - it isn’t a room where you spend a lot of time, nor is it usually the centre of decor efforts. In fact, the laundry room is usually tucked out of sight and forgotten about. Between the piles of clothing and the cleaning products, it’s very common for homeowners to leave their laundry room as-is.
Fortunately, Devonleigh has a variety of solutions for your laundry room woes! Here are some of our favourite laundry room design tips and tricks to make your room look great.

Organization
Some homeowners view their laundry room as more of a transient room, meaning they complete the chore and then leave. While this may be the purpose of the room, we find that making it more of a utility room is the best way to maximize the space. Instead of washing, drying and walking away, why not add some additional functionality like laundry room storage and spacemakers?
For example, rather than leaving your delicate garments to dry in your bedroom or bathroom, create a hanging space for them in the laundry room. The key here is to create space by adding shelving or hanging units.

Another way to make your laundry room into more of a utility centre is to keep your cleaning supplies in here. If you have an existing closet in this room, installing shelving units or hanging studs can be a great way to organize your laundry supplies and your brooms, mops, etc.
Even a simple trick like adding a colour scheme (like the beautifully organized closet seen here) can make a world of difference. Keeping your containers in a matching colour scheme not only appears more organized, but also acts similar to decor pieces. The best part is, all of these materials are inexpensive, and can be found very easily. This is a surefire way to bring life to your laundry room!
Accents
Just because this is a room for chores doesn’t mean it can’t look great! Little accents can make a huge difference, we recommend sprucing it up with a few simple DIY laundry room decor pieces.

Recognize these detergent dispensers? They’re actually cold beverage canisters! These are a fantastic way to get rid of those clunky detergent containers, and they add a sense of uniformity to the room.
If you use pods for your laundry, try a simple candy or dry ingredient canister.
Even if you use powder detergent, you can still use a clear plastic container to keep your laundry room looking chic.

Wall art is also a fantastic way to add vibrancy to any space. Family photos are a nice touch, as are framed prints. To add to the theme of clothing, why not shadowbox some outfits that aren’t cycling through the laundry anymore? This can be old onesies, old sports uniforms, or any other clothing items. Not only are they great memories, they’re one-of-a-kind decor pieces!
Alternatively, you can find some charming wall pieces like the ones below to add some flair to the space. These are easy DIY crafts, and they add a wonderful sense of uniqueness to the room.

And although laundry can smell wonderful (fresh linen, anyone?), the potential to have bad odours remains - especially if you have little ones who are outdoorsy or love sports! We recommend putting some fragrant florals here and there to create beautiful focal points and eliminate any unpleasant odours.
Lilacs are known to have a calming effect, and they’re simply gorgeous to look at. If your laundry room has a clean, light look, a fresh bunch of lilacs will add a stunning pop of colour. Hydrangeas have a very similar effect.

Lastly, an accent wall really adds the sense that the laundry room is, well, a room! Adding a pattern to one wall will draw the attention there, so if you’d like that to be the main focus of your room, we recommend putting the pattern on that wall. Here are some examples to get you started.

Who says laundry rooms need to be cold and dark? Any space can be beautiful, and laundry rooms are no exception. Don’t be afraid to use vibrant colours and unique decor pieces to liven up that space!
